Getting around the city

Utilizing public transportation is a must for getting around the city, especially if you’re planning on switching bars during the night. The Metropolitan Transportation Authority is focused on providing safe and affordable ways to tour the Big Apple no matter where you want to go. You can find schedule and fare information on the MTA’s website, along with current statuses of all buses, subways, rails, and bridge/tunnel systems.Cabs are another option for getting around the city. If you’re unfamiliar with the city, stick to the traditional “Yellow Medallion” cabs, as the livery cabs can be confusing for new riders. Always check seatbelts and make sure you feel safe before getting in the cab. 15-20 gratuity is considered standard in addition to the regular cab fare. If you ever experience any problems or difficulty with a driver, get their ID number and report your concern to the Taxi and Limousine Commission (TLC).
